Armstrong Spring Creek

Armstrong is a beautiful gem of a spring creek. A little over a mile long and averaging about 80 feet wide and 3 feet in depth, the entire creek offers very easy wading and the ultimate in dry fly fishing. The creek flows perfectly clear the entire year with a temperature range of 46 to a maximum of 55 degrees.

The clarity of the water makes finding fish easy. In fact, fish numbers can range from exceptional to phenomenal–native rainbows, browns and cutthroats–all wild (non stocked) ranging in size from 14″ to 20″ with excellent weight and fighting power.

The creek is purely spring fed and constantly produces a massive trout food supply of mayflies, midges and terrestrials. Mayfly hatches of pale morning duns, sulphurs, and blue winged olives can reach near blanket proportions.

The creek is is on a private ranch owned by the O’Hair family and is open all year. Ten rods are allowed daily at a fee of $80 per rod.

For those who enjoy spring creek type waters, this is close to as good as it gets. It is highly recommended that first timers fish with a spring creek guide. Fishing is excellent here the entire year. Secure guides and rod reservations as early as possible for the months of June, July, August and September.
